Prince Don Tsegah Names Joseph Matthew New King Of Ghanaian Gospel Music

Controversial radio presenter and entertainment Critic, Prince Tsegah aka De Don of Hitz FM has named talented UK-based Ghanaian Gospel Musician, Joseph Matthew as the new king of Ghanaian Gospel Music after watching his ‘Nyame Ye’ music video.
Crooned in a distinctive contemporary sound-a mixture of highlife, Afro beats, and Rap, “Nyame Ye’, which literally means ‘God Is Good’ in Akan dialect, and engineered by award-winning sound engineer, Francis Osei, is a song that talks about the essence of thanking God for overcoming obstacles and hard times.
The ‘Nyame Ye’ music video which was shot in London and in the Bahamas was directed by internationally acclaimed music video director Martin Sean.
Martin’s background in illustration and visual effects means his videos are full of incredibly subtle tricks and motifs, forcing your eyes into every inch of the screen just to make sure you’ve taken it all in.
While this alone is enough to make a strong impression, when combined with such compelling visual concepts as he is known for, the results are nothing short of mesmerizing.
Analysing the music video as a Pundit on The Red Carpet Show on Joy Prime TV, De Don posited that Joseph Matthew who is better known as JM has taken the Gospel music industry on an incredible turn with his style of singing.
According to De Don who is the host of ‘U Sey Weytin’ on Hitz FM,” I feel it’s a fusion of so many kinds of beats; I feel the East African vibe in it, I feel the Afro Beats, i feel the Ghanaian style in there, I feel there is more Hip-Pop in there and you would realize that this song is something new; he sang it in a way that would attract you and me; the non-regular Churchgoers; you get glued to what he is saying and you realize the guy is talking about God; he is preaching about the Gospel and then this guy comes in with a rap…i feel he has broadened the spectrum for Gospel Music and I think this is good”.
He continued, “it is a good initiative because the kind of Gospel music we do in Ghana has been tagged by a faction of people in this generation as old Skull, they need something contemporary that they can relate to and with my songs of this sought will give him that mileage”.
De Don added that just like how award-winning Ghanaian gospel musicians, Joe Mettle, Koda, and Cwesi Oteng became popular, JM’s captivating ‘Nyame Ye’ song also carries the weight of contemporariness and thus he would encourage him to continue producing songs with that same aptitude.
